Director
Meg Horgan, R.N., M.S.N., is responsible for education and consulting services
at CareScience. Ms. Horgan guides healthcare leaders to approach today's complex
care management issues by building care management processes and infrastructure,
and by providing the education, knowledge and information necessary to effectively
make care decisions. Prior to joining CareScience, Ms. Horgan was the Director of
Clinical Redesign and Outcomes Management at Graduate Health Systems in Philadelphia,
managing a system-wide clinical and financial outcome improvement program. She came
to Graduate Health Systems from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP),
where she was the Administrator of the Quality Improvement Department. In that role,
she directed the outcomes monitoring program for the medical staff and hospital
departments and managed the information systems that supported the performance
improvement program. Ms. Horgan has additional experience working in a peer review
organization and several years of direct healthcare delivery. She received her M.S.
in nursing and bachelors degree from Gwynedd-Mercy College.
Senior Consultant
Aubrie Augustus is a Senior Care Management Consultant for CareScience. She has
over 15 years experience in quality management and performance improvement and is
an experienced facilitator, project manager, and educator in CQI methodology.
Before coming to CareScience, Ms. Augustus served as Director of Performance Management
and Education at Sisters of Mercy in Laredo, Texas. In that role, she contributed to
re-designing operations in medical staff quality, patient risk and safety, and CQI
training and development programs. Prior to assuming her role at the Sisters of Mercy,
Ms. Augustus provided managerial and operational consulting for acute care, ambulatory
care, and home health agencies. Her consulting emphasis encompassed organizational
reviews for JCAHO, accreditation readiness, and enhancement of quality improvement,
utilization and case management programs. When Mercy and Baptist Hospitals in New
Orleans merged, Ms. Augustus' position as Director for Quality and Utilization Management
for Mercy (200 beds) was expanded to Director of Quality, Utilization and Social
Services for the newly created Mercy Baptist Medical Center (535 beds). Ms. Augustus
earned her M.H.A. at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX and her B.S.N. at McNeese
State University in Lake Charles, LA.
Consultant
Carolyn Richardson is a Care Management Consultant for CareScience. She offers over 20
years experience in the healthcare industry, having worked for academic hospitals,
health plans and a healthcare vendor. Before coming to CareScience, Ms. Richardson
worked as Senior Clinical Director for American Healthways, where she held responsibility
for the development, implementation, clinical integrity, and operational viability of
a national cardiac disease management program. Ms. Richardson's areas of expertise
include cardiology, project development, customer support and relationship development.
Prior to her leadership role with American Healthways, Ms. Richardson developed and
implemented a comprehensive disease management program as part of a randomized controlled
trial for an at-risk population with heart failure at BJC HealthCare in St. Louis,
Missouri. In that role, she provided clinical expertise and the daily program management
of multiple disciplines. Ms. Richardson has also presented across the Midwest on current
treatment modalities for heart failure. She earned her M.B.A. from Webster University
in Saint Louis, Missouri and her B.S.N. from Saint Louis University in Saint Louis,
Missouri.
Senior Consultant
Rosemary Berg is a Senior Care Management Consultant for CareScience. Ms. Berg has
more than 20 years of experience in healthcare management, process design, implementation,
and process improvement. Throughout her career, her emphasis has been on implementing
innovations in diverse healthcare settings, including hospitals, primary and specialty
care practices, outpatient services, health promotion, occupational health, and
epidemiology. Prior to joining CareScience, Ms. Berg directed a team for Health
Improvement at an integrated delivery system in Tucson, AZ, where she designed and
implemented population and disease management programs across the continuum of care.
Before her work in health improvement, she served as Vice President of Product Management
at PhDx Systems, an outcomes management software company in Albuquerque, NM. At PhDx,
Ms. Berg was responsible for the development of software application specifications,
software programming, testing, documentation, implementation consulting, planning, and
training. Ms. Berg received her B.S. in Medical Microbiology from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison, her ME.d in Adult Education and Professional Development from the
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and her M.B.A. in Healthcare Administration from
the University of Arizona.
Senior Consultant and Account Manager
Margaret Hickey is a Senior Care Management Consultant and Account Manager for
CareScience. Ms. Hickey has been with CareScience for over 5 years. She specializes
in educating clients on population-based clinical analysis, improvement opportunity
identification, and action plan development to implement process change. Prior to
CareScience, Ms. Hickey worked as a Senior Consultant at QuadraMed Corporation where
she oversaw the implementation of their case management and decision support software.
Before QuadraMed, she worked as a Senior Consultant at McFaul & Lyons where she
performed operational assessments of client hospitals for case management models and
a streamlined clinical pathway development processes. Before her consulting career, Ms.
Hickey gained her expertise in case management working as a Geriatric Case Manager at
United Healthcare Corporation in Minneapolis, MN where her services were outsourced to
Memorial Hospital of Burlington County in Mt. Holy, NJ. At Memorial Hospital, Ms. Hickey
assisted with the development of an integrated case management model and reduced overall
length of stay for designated populations. She received her nursing diploma from Helene
Fuld School of Nursing in Camden, NJ and her B.S.N. from Widener University in Chester,
PA. She has been a nurse supervisor, nurse manager, and staff nurse for several hospitals
in various different departments.
