Collaboration: Clinical Data Sharing
This track addressed how organizations share clinical data
across the community, bringing the full experience of treatment
to a patient's care. Leading hospital and health system
CIOs shared their experience addressing interoperability,
data integration, inter-networking, and how Web-enabled
technologies support and enable effective IT strategies.
Sessions included legal, financial, operational and competitive
issues with clinical data sharing within and beyond the
enterprise. Discussions and case studies presented findings
from the CareScience Santa Barbara County Care Data Exchange,
the nation's leading demonstration project in community
data sharing which is funded by The California Health Care
Foundation.
Enterprise Strategy: The
Care Management Process
This
track addressed how care management works, the results it
can produce and how the enterprise can use care management
to achieve its goals. Sessions included strategic expectations
for care management, structuring the care management organization,
implementing efficiency and quality improvement initiatives,
and evaluating the impact of care management interventions.
Many of the nation's most highly respected hospitals and
health systems discussed their experience with care management
including the strategy, experience, and ROI of their efforts.
Point
of Care Information: The Patient-Centric Approach
This track addressed how organizations make information
available at the point of care to improve patient throughput,
clinical efficiency and safety. Health systems and community
organizations discussed their experience with getting information
about patient status, outcome risks, test results, evidence
or care process to clinicians. Sessions included the barriers
to technology adoption by clinicians, real-time data integration
and management challenges, and the benefits of online results
reporting. The emerging role of consumers in accessing and
using clinical information was also explored.
