Thomas H. Zajac, M.B.A., President
Directs the CareScience division of Quovadx, Inc. Prior to its acquisition
by Quovadx, Mr Zajac was senior vice president and chief operating officer
for CareScience, from 1999-2003. Mr. Zajac formerly led the Business Solutions
Group of Eclipsys Corporation, which offers management consulting, business
transformation, and value realization services for Eclipsys customers. He joined
Eclipsys as part of its acquisition of Transition Systems Inc. in 1999. Mr.
Zajac was with TSI, which revolutionized hospital cost accounting and in many
ways was CareScience's precursor in administrative decision support, for more
than 11 years, most recently as Chief Operating Officer and General Manager in
charge of Sales, Product Development, Consulting, Customer Services and Support.
He was involved in many phases of the over 1100 implementations of the decision
support product set, and advised customer executive management on the strategic
use and integration of information and the development of business plans and
management processes. Previously, he was Director of Financial Management at
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He holds both an MBA and
a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Engineering degree from Drexel University.
Ken Emery, B.S., CISSP, Director of Technology
Leads product technologies, including security, data center, network, systems operations and
software engineering for CareScience. Ken has been with CareScience for over 9 years and was
the Director of Application Development during the Internet launch of the CareScience Quality
Manager in January 1997. He has held various key roles throughout his career at CareScience and
has been instrumental in growing the company. Ken currently also leads the Quovadx Information
Security Committee. Prior to joining CareScience, Mr. Emery worked on Wall Street for JP Morgan
leading development of a critical financial system connecting front-, mid- and back-office with
600 users in over 20 major cities worldwide. Mr. Emery has over 18 years of software development,
systems engineering and information technology experience. Ken earned his B.S. in Computer Science
from Rutgers University.
Meg Horgan, R.N., M.S.N., Vice President of Consulting Services and Outsourcing
Leads consulting, outsourcing, and education services at CareScience. Ms. Horgan guides
healthcare leaders to approach today's complex care management issues by building
care management processes and infrastructure, and by providing the education, knowledge
and information necessary to effectively make care decisions. Prior to joining CareScience,
Ms. Horgan was the Director of Clinical Redesign and Outcomes Management at Graduate
Health Systems in Philadelphia, managing a system-wide clinical and financial outcome
improvement program. She came to Graduate Health Systems from the Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania (HUP), where she was the Administrator of the Quality Improvement Department.
In that role, she directed the outcomes monitoring program for the medical staff and
hospital departments and managed the information systems that supported the performance
improvement program. Ms. Horgan has additional experience working in a peer review organization
and several years of direct healthcare delivery. She received her M.S. in nursing and
bachelors degree from Gwynedd-Mercy College.
Eugene Kroch, Ph.D, Vice President and Director of Research
Eugene A. Kroch, Ph.D., is Vice President and Director of Research for CareScience. In addition to his role as head of the CareScience clinical research team, Dr. Kroch is a lecturer in healthcare systems at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches health economics and econometrics. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania, where he conducts research in the fields of econometrics, public policy, and health economics. Dr. Kroch holds a B.S. degree in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and A.M. and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from Harvard University, where he was a National Science Foundation Fellow.
Ann Marie Brown, M.A., Vice President of Market Development
Drives market awareness, product positioning and business development efforts for CareScience.
Ms. Brown brings extensive experience in assisting healthcare information software and services
organizations build their business through sales and marketing. Ms. Brown has led all aspects of
marketing including branding and market positioning, product marketing, demand creation, sales
training and all aspects of marketing communications. Prior to CareScience, Ms. Brown was Vice
President of Marketing for Per-Se Technologies, NDCHealth and also worked for Equifax Healthcare
Information Services and Equifax Insurance Services, which is now ChoicePoint, as well as Unisys.
Ms. Brown earned her Bachelor of Science and her Masters of Arts degrees in Speech Communications
Consultancy from Oklahoma State University.
